What do you think of when you hear AI? If you're like most people, there's a good chance it will be ChatGPT. ChatGPT is probably the most well-known instance of AI, widely used at work and home.
In the field, ChatGPT is known as a type of AI solution. AI solutions are technologies that leverage artificial intelligence like chatbots, data analysis, image recognition, and automation systems to solve problems and maximize efficiency. In today's world, these solutions are proliferating and evolving at a rapid pace, becoming embedded in our personal and professional lives. AI is no longer limited to rote tasks. As the technology improves, it is expanding into a wide range of fields once thought to be the sole domain of the human mind. In 2025, the future possibilities appear endless. But how does Nota fit into all this?
ㅣToward a Safer Society Nota provides AI safety solutions that can be categorized into two main areas:
(1) Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Solutions
Nota's ITS solutions analyze CCTV recordings of roads using AI to help solve traffic issues. This can be anything from simple traffic congestion, to more serious incidents and accidents. Traffic jams are frustrating, and we've all been there. Roads were built to encourage movement and travel, and we help facilitate this by reducing congestion.
Roads can be dangerous. In South Korea alone, there are approximately 200,000 traffic-related accidents every year. That equates to almost 500 per day, highlighting the nationwide scale of the problem. In conjunction with human operators managing CCTV feeds, our ITS solutions help analyze footage more efficiently.
At its core, ITS is an engine that analyzes many aspects of the road. For example, it can differentiate between vehicles and pedestrians while also counting how many of each there are, it can recognize the status of traffic signals, and much more, building a real time map of essential traffic data. Our ITS solutions are already in operation across South Korea. If you're eagle-eyed you can spot them in Daejeon, Pangyo, Incheon and Jeju, as they help to make roads safer and more efficient for everyone.
Some key ITS solutions include:
Smart Intersection System (SIS)
Intersections are complex junctions on the road, with vehicles arriving from every direction. With cars alone, this is a difficult flow to manage, but add in pedestrians and bicycles, and the risks increase exponentially.
Nota's SIS is an effective solution that accurately monitors and detects key traffic markers at intersections, collecting real time data to understand traffic volume and levels of road congestion. SIS can detect and classify vehicles by type, monitor the duration of stops, and accurately track speeds to manage traffic with precision and efficiency. Using AI optimization technology, it can process traffic footage en masse across hundreds of CCTV channels, ensuring the highest degrees of accuracy. In Daejeon alone, it now manages 800 channels concurrently, up from 200 when it was first implemented. It has been such a success that it received an “Excellent” rating from Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the highest possible grade, earning 99.99% accuracy in every test measured.
Vulnerable Road Safety Solutions
From the 200,000 annual traffic accidents in South Korea, around 13,000 involve pedestrians at crosswalks. Right turns are a particular problem, as vehicles often pass through two crosswalks at once without a dedicated signal. Nota's safety solutions leverage AI to prevent accidents from occurring at these potentially dangerous crossings. By analyzing CCTV footage to detect the presence, direction of travel, and positions of vehicles and pedestrians, it is able to issue warnings to prevent accidents from taking place.

(2) Industrial Safety Solutions
Like ITS, Nota's industrial safety solution monitors and analyzes multiple CCTV feeds in real time to prevent and manage accidents, though in this instance related to construction sites, factories and logistics centers. Industrial settings in particular have increased risks from various types of hazards, and have the potential to cause major accidents. In 2022, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act (SAPA) was introduced in South Korea, but injuries, and even fatalities, still occur.
With the law expanding in 2024 to cover more businesses, the need for industrial safety solutions is growing. Industrial accidents like heavy machinery collisions or fires are of the highest severity and require immediate responses. In an ideal world, they would be prevented from ever happening, which is why proactive monitoring is so important. From safety gear compliance, to vehicle movements in work zones, and site conditions, everything must be closely monitored.
Nota's solution can automatically detect and monitor over 60 safety indicators. It is able to check for protective gear like helmets, goggles and masks, it can detect if people are too close to dangerous equipment, it can identify hazardous obstacles and liquids on the ground, and even pinpoint the exact location of smoke, fires and other all too common industrial accidents.
Unlike other systems that are based solely on Computer Vision (CV), Nota uses Vision-Language Models (VLM), which are able to interpret visual and textual information together, allowing the system to understand and interpret entire scenes on the ground, not merely identify objects, making it perfect for fast-changing industrial environments.
It's easy to deploy. Just connect Nota's Gen AI Box to an existing CCTV and VMS system, and you're good to go without any additional training.
Our AI analyzes footage in real time and alerts managers to any potential hazards, while suggesting ways to respond. For example, if someone is not wearing a protective helmet in an area where it is required, the system will notify the site manager. Or if a fire breaks out inside a plant, it can autonomously trigger emergency alerts and even notify emergency services.
ㅣSmarter AI Solutions Lead to a Safer Society
From its inception, Nota set out with a simple belief: to solve everyday problems with AI technology. Our first product was a Nota Keyboard, a typo-correction app for smartphones that helped eliminate small grammar mistakes, that sometimes lead to big consequences. Additionally, by analyzing the user's recurring typing style, it was even able to offer some basic chatbot functions.
Now, with stronger capabilities in AI optimization and model lightweighting, we're developing smarter, more versatile and efficient solutions. Today we have discussed two flagship products, ITS and industrial safety solutions, but we have much more to offer.
We will continue to make roads, factories and construction sites safer and more efficient, but we're also looking ahead and exploring new avenues for AI solutions. Going forward, we'll focus on expanding our VLM-based solutions, enabling our systems to better understand the complexities of every individual scenario, and make better decisions in the process. Our ultimate goal is to bring these technologies to new industries like childcare, insurance, intelligence surveillance, finance, smart buildings, and more.
